EdenKeeper Article: Egypt Illuminates Ancient Alleyways With Solar Light

Dark alley in crowded city

Dark alleys are very common in over crowded cities. El Mahala, Egypt

I’d love to share with you this great new technology that Egyptian researchers have designed to brighten up dimly lit streets and alleyways blocked from the sun by overcrowded conditions in high rise urban centers. My latest article published on EdenKeeper.org can’t be posted entirely here on my blog, but it can be “reposted” with a synopsis, and I think you’ll find it interesting! I’m also throwing an Award Party down below, so I hope you’ll stay for the free food and fun!

Egypt Illuminates Ancient Alleyways With Solar Light (via http://edenkeeper.org)

Global populations are rising continuously, tall buildings are rising higher, and in dense urban centers around the world, sunlight is being blocked out. Although the sun is the highest object in the sky, more and more people are literally living in the dark. But an eco-friendly solution is rising on the horizon. In response to over crowded urban conditions in developing countries, researchers in Egypt have developed an inexpensive way of redirecting natural sunlight, capable of increasing the brightness in dimly lit streets and alleys by up to 400 percent.

Islam Teaches that God Created the Sun to be of Service to Humans

“And He has made the sun and the moon, both constantly pursuing their courses, to be of service to you; and He has made the night and the day, to be of service to you.” (Quran 14-33)

Islam teaches in the Quran that God specifically created the sun and the moon to be of service to human beings. It is both allowable and advisable for humans to utilize the powerful potential of these generous gifts. And how we may utilize the services of the sun is limited only by our ability to imagine innovative answers to our solar needs.

Why We Need Sunlight

The human need for sunlight is well documented, being critical for the production of vitamin D, a necessary ingredient in the recipe for all humans’ good health. Vitamin D is important to the body for healthy bone structure. Muscles need it to move, nerves need it to carry messages between the brain and every single part of the body, and the immune system needs vitamin D to fight off invading bacteria and viruses. Together with calcium, vitamin D also helps protect older adults from Osteoporosis, a disease responsible for the progressive weakening and frailty of aging bones.

Vitamin D is found in cells throughout the human body, but very few foods naturally contain vitamin D. In the developed world, many commercially prepared foods are supplemented with it, but this is not the typical food eaten in the developing world. Our skin must be directly exposed to the sun for the human body to produce vitamin D, and most people meet at least some of their daily requirement needs this way. However, skin exposed to sunshine indoors through a window will not produce vitamin D. Cloudy days, shade, and having dark-colored skin also cut down on the amount of vitamin D the skin makes, potentially leading to serious health issues, especially in the developing countries.… Read more of my article on Edenkeeper.org

  1. Indeed He created the Sun and the Moon and everything between the Skies and the Ground for the service of His Creations. I love the way you’ve put it; it really depends on our abilities as to how well we make use of these things for ourselves and others.

Also, I love that fruit salad! 😀 Thank you so very much for nominating my blog and letting me be a part of this amazing thing. It made my day! ^_^
    Love,
    Maria.

  2. you are so fun! the fruit looks yummy – but is such a tease because I could not taste any of it through my screen. ha! and how cool to use the sun for the dark alleys – and your photo is nice. I have never really heard anything from the Quran and that was beautiful – I know we have differing spiritual beliefs – but I am glad we are blogging friends – and glad we share universal things that unite…. 🙂

“And He has made the sun and the moon, both constantly pursuing their courses, to be of service to you; and He has made the night and the day, to be of service to you.” (Quran 14-33)
I think this energy is with us all the time, and we simply don’t realise it. I love the quotes from your article, and the images as well. Again, congrats!!!!

  7. When I picture Egypt and some other places, I picture dark alleyways like this. It would be incredible to redirect sunlight down into them. I wonder what kind of effects it would have? I imagine less crime. But what else? Sunlight has so much influence on our moods, I think. But it may also make it very hot down those alleys where perhaps they need shade to stay cool??

    • These are really great points, Juliann! Yes, our apartment in the city is always in the dark as its surrounded by other tall bldgs, and its so depressing I dont like to go there much! But also you might be right, lol, we must be careful what we pray for because we might just get it and not really like the side effects!

On the other hand, they say the big increase in light comes in the autumn and winter, and they are fair weather seasons here, so a little extra heat, especially in the winter might not be a bad result after all. Those tall concrete bldgs can freeze your buns in the winter – almost nobody has heating here! Thanks for the great comments, so great to see you here! ♥♥♥ ;^)
